Program Eligibility
Spotlight Theatre Camp is specifically designed to support neurodivergent students (and their allies) who are diploma-bound and working towards a standard high school diploma. While our program provides a nurturing and inclusive environment, it requires participants to engage in group activities and follow a structured schedule with a level of independence that aligns with this academic path. Our program is designed for students who:
- have a minimum reading level of third grade,
- have at least basic conversational skills,
- are able to take care of their personal needs,
- can communicate any issues they may be having, and
- have independent self-help skills.
Spotlight Theatre Camp reserves the right to determine any individual's program participation. If you are unsure if we can accommodate your teen, please reach out.
Behavior Expectations
To foster a productive and respectful environment, it is essential to establish clear behavior expectations. Expectations will be reviewed with the campers on the first day of camp. These include arriving on time, being prepared with necessary materials, and actively participating and focusing on camp activities. Respect for diverse perspectives and open, constructive communication are key to maintaining a positive classroom dynamic. Disruptive behaviors, such as excessive phone use, should be minimized to ensure all students can engage fully.
Violent or unsafe behaviors, such as hitting, throwing objects, or actions that pose a risk to oneself or others, will not be tolerated. These situations will be addressed immediately and with care, using appropriate interventions to ensure everyone's safety. In cases where a student's behavior consistently disrupts the learning environment or poses a safety concern, we will do our best to work with the student and family to help the student behave appropriately. If the behavior persists despite these efforts, we reserve the right to dismiss the student from the program to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
Our goal is to provide support and guidance while maintaining a safe and productive environment for everyone.
Important Note
Although Spotlight Theatre Camp is led by Montgomery County Public School (MCPS) teachers and takes place in an MCPS facility, this is not an MCPS program. The camp is sponsored and managed by Rainbow Connector, LLC, a private entity registered in the State of Maryland.
